This August 21st, Bicycle Friendly Farmington (BFF) will become Beer Friendly Farmington (for a day)! Tidal River Brewing in Canton, CT, is the Farmington Valley’s latest addition to the growing craft beer scene in Connecticut. Join BFF for a ride to the brewery, with a tour and tasting led by Tidal River’s brewmeister, Geoff Mattheis.
The ride is approximately 10 miles each way, all on the Farmington River Trail (except for a very short section in Canton), and bicyclists of all levels are invited to participant. Riders must be at least 21 years old to partake in the brewery tasting.
The brewery tour and tasting will include 2- or 3-oz servings of the beers on tap on the day of our visit, which usually span a variety of styles and could include three or four brews such as Swamp Wookie cream ale, Thickarus Flew Too Close to the Tun cappuccino stout, or Floppy Donkey dunkelweizen. As a nanobrewery, Tidal River doesn’t bottle or can most of its production, but fills customers’ resusable 32-oz or 64-oz growler bottles, which will be on sale for a nominal cost — or you can bring your own. Since our ride will span the usual brunch/lunch times, BFF will serve bagels for our bicyclists at the brewery stop, as well.
This event is free, but riders are encouraged to take home a growler of fresh, locally-brewed craft beer at the end of the visit, so load up your panniers or bring a backpack! Credit cards and cash are both accepted at Tidal River.
We’ll start our ride at the bicycle racks in the Unionville Shopping Plaza; be ready to ride at 10:00 am. SPACE IS LIMITED, so please RSVP on Facebook or by contacting Doug Gerlach email@example.com.
