Bicycle Friendly Farmington, Inc. (BFF), a volunteer community organization operating in Farmington, Connecticut, and The Kevin Adorno Memorial Fund present the inaugural Kevin Adorno Memorial Ride and Festival.
To be held at the non-profit outdoor recreation center Winding Trails in Farmington, Connecticut on Saturday, May 2, 2015, and with the support of the Farmington Valley Trails Council, this event honors the life and memory of Kevin Adorno, an avid bicyclist and adventurer who was a lifelong resident of Farmington. The Ride will include 28- and 50-mile bicycle rides, and a 5K trail run, from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The festival will start at 12:00 p.m. and include a family fun zone, food, soccer and basketball games, pig roast, bonfire, and music. The festival will conclude at 9:00 p.m.
Kevin Adorno was born and raised in Farmington where he and his family enjoyed all of the wonderful things Farmington had to offer. Kevin attended Noah Wallace School, Irving Robbins, and Farmington High School and actively participated in soccer, football and lacrosse graduating from FHS in 2004. He went on to take classes at Tunxis Community College before graduating from Central Connecticut State University with a degree in Graphic Design. Kevin was the owner of Bevy Productions and Media as well as My Pencil Portraits, where he demonstrated his incredible artistic abilities.
Kevin always had a sense of adventure. Kevin had a particular gift for meeting people and finding out what made them unique. He enjoyed learning about the things they did and then trying them himself. He loved to travel and see new places. By age 28, Kevin had backpacked Europe, toured the country by car, and biked the entire East coast.
On September 1, 2014, Kevin was at the tail end of his Maryland to Florida bicycling tour to complete the east coast adventure he started in the summer of 2013, with a successful ride from Maine to Maryland. His journey was interrupted in Vero Beach, Florida by an unexpected attack by a homeless man that ended his life. He was just 140 miles from his end destination in Miami.
Ron Goralski, chairman of Bicycle Friendly Farmington, commented, “We are proud to be working with the friends and family of Kevin Adorno to present this event, especially as a kick-off celebration for National Bike Month in May. Kevin Adorno’s spirit of adventure represents the best that our community has to offer, and his memory should serve as a constant reminder that life should be lived and experienced as fully as possible.” Goralski added, “The Kevin Adorno Memorial Ride and Festival is a great way for all members of our community to support our town’s bicycle friendly activities, become more active in their own personal lives, and commemorate the life of a kind and gentle adventurer.”
The Adorno Family said that “this Ride & Festival honors the life and legacy of a wonderful, adventurous, giving, athletic, fun loving brother, friend, and son, Kevin Adorno. We are so appreciative of the unfettering support of Bicycle Friendly Farmington, Winding Trails, Farmington Valley Trails Council, and the Town of Farmington for making this event possible.”
For more information on the Kevin Adorno Memorial Ride and Festival, or to register, please see www.AdornoRide.org. Individual and family registrations are available for each of the rides, the trail run, and the festival. Proceeds from the event benefit the Kevin Adorno Memorial Fund and Bicycle Friendly Farmington. The Kevin Adorno Memorial Fund’s initial mission is to carry on Kevin’s legacy by completing his 140 mile ride from Vero Beach to Miami. In the future, the Fund will support Farmington Valley residents in a variety of other ways to carry forward Kevin’s love of sports, adventure, and art – such as granting scholarships to Farmington High School students in the upcoming years.
